Last Friday SFL's Robotics Team, made up of nineteen 4th and 5th graders showed everyone why our future is so bright! We have some hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and cooperative programmers and inventors at our school! Four teams conquered challenge board after challenge board, programming their LEGO EV3 robots to turn, run, back up, make noises, and sense various colors and obstacles. We also had two amazing invention teams who both created devices to make life in a wheelchair more independent. We are so proud of our SFL Robotics Team! Check out all the fun we had by viewing the gallery below (thanks to the parents who sent their photos to add to mine!). You can click on any picture to enlarge it!
Today we had a great time playing Battleship to practice our knowledge of plotting points on a Coordinate Grid!
The Cove Kids got to spend their hard earned Cove Cash today playing board games together! We decided to unplug and collaborate/compete the old fashioned way! Everyone had a lot of fun as you can see in the pictures!
Today was SO awesome! After hearing from coding pioneers like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, we also watched a short plea from President Obama encouraging us to learn how to code. Well, who could pass up all that enthusiasm and encouragement? We jumped right in and coded lines and lines, building very cool programs and games. We had a blast, and many of us are interested in continuing our study in computer science! Some quotes from the day...
"This is awesome!"
"Yes! I built a wall!"
"The mistakes help you!"
"Yes, it worked!"
"So... let's see how that will work..."
"It's fun! Sometimes it will trick ya, and you gotta find out!"
We had such an awesome time learning about history at the House in the Horseshoe right here in our own county! We learned about games kids used to play, how to make our own marbles, what money used to look like, and finally got a great tour of the 200+ year old house!
The Cove Kids finally got to spend a chunk of Cove Cash for their great behavior and hard work over the 1st Quarter! They watched "Big Hero 6" and feasted on a buffet of sweets! They also enjoyed "working" in the empty Cove Theater earlier in the day as you can see in some of these pictures!
Today the Cove Kids had fun putting their new "Tornado Math" skills to work as they solved equations in order to holler "BINGO!" The games were definitely a hit, as you can see from these pictures.
Today, the Cove Kids decided to make their study of decimals a little more exciting and "real world" by using Cheesecake Factory menus to solve some problems! We practiced adding up bill amounts, multiplying when more than one person in the family ordered something, dividing the bill among our friends, and subtracting to find out what our change would be! All the while, our mouths were watering!
